Our 18 Spice Rub is the result of years spent experimenting, cooking, and refining flavour. What started as a personal blend has become a staple in my kitchen, used in every meal I cook. Over time, I've fine-tuned the recipe into a seasoning that reflects the flavours and experiences that have shaped my cooking journey.

When I arrived in Peckham 26 years ago at the age of 17, I quickly found myself immersed in one of London's most diverse food communities. Jamaican cooking became one of my biggest influences. From jerk marinades and seasoning blends to classics such as Oxtail, Ackee & Saltfish, Rice and Peas, and the much-loved drink Sorrel, I learnt the importance of layering spices, balancing flavours, and creating food that brings people together.

Living in Peckham also introduced me to the rich food traditions of its West African communities. Jollof Rice became a favourite, and learning to cook Egusi Soup gave me a deeper appreciation for the ingredients and traditions that are such an important part of Peckham's food culture.

I also found inspiration in Ottolenghi's incredible use of ingredients, where herbs, spices, vegetables, and aromatics are layered to create depth and balance. Restaurants such as Ganapati and Silk Road opened my eyes to new culinary traditions, while many evenings spent at the prep bar of the Camberwell Arms, talking food with Mike and admiring his remarkable collection of cookery books, deepened my appreciation for ingredients, technique, and creativity.

Together, these experiences helped shape this blend.

I made the conscious decision not to add chilli or salt. Peckham Heat's other products bring the heat and the salt; this blend is all about flavour. It allows you to season food your way while delivering depth, warmth, and complexity without overpowering a dish.

Perfect for meats, fish, vegetables, sauces, roasted potatoes, soups, stews, and marinades, it's designed to become a go-to seasoning for everyday cooking.
